Local MP to meet with incinerator developers

Newly elected Member of Parliament for Northwich, Graham Evans, is to waste no time in standing up for local residents and this Friday (18th June) will be meeting with senior figures at Brunner Mond about their plans for an incinerator at Lostock.

The meeting will be held with Brunner Mond Managing Director, Dr Martin Ashcroft, and other senior figures at the business. Graham Evans MP will be raising the concerns of thousands of local residents about the proposals for a new incinerator. Graham, who has been a long standing campaigner against the proposals, commented "One of my first acts as the new Member of Parliament was to reaffirm my support for the Cheshire Anti-Incinerator Network (CHAIN). In this meeting with the developers, I want to ensure that the views of my constituents are well and truly heard."

Explaining his stance, Graham said "I strongly believe in supporting local business. As a Conservative, I believe that one of my most important tasks as the local MP, particularly in the current economic climate, is to work tirelessly to help and promote business here in Cheshire. However, it is also my job to stand up for local residents and make certain that key planning applications are not pushed through, despite overwhelming opposition."

"The planning system designed by John Prescott and the last Labour Government was bad for democracy, bad for the environment and bad for business. I am hopeful that the new Conservative-led Government will take steps to reform the planning system and ensure that local communities will be able to determine the appropriate level of new development for their area."
