Graham Evans MP has expressed his dismay over the recent announcement by Nationwide that the local Cheshire Building Society estate agent in Northwich is to close.

Nationwide confirmed the closure in a letter to Mr Evans, stating that “during the last eighteen months...it has become increasingly clear that it is no longer economically viable for us to maintain the current complement of Cheshire branches and estate agencies.”

Graham said “This is yet another blow to Northwich town centre and a further sign of the economic mess Labour has left the country to face.”

“There is a worrying trend of closures on our high streets, as familiar shops and post offices vanish. We need to act now to turn around our broken economy. I firmly believe that the emergency budget on 22^nd June, will take the crucial first steps and tough decisions required.”

Focusing on local challenges, Graham commented “Locally, we desperately need to bring about the regeneration of Northwich town centre. I will be doing all I can to work with the Council and local business to ensure that Northwich gets the investment it deserves.”
